Santa was on the last few stops of the night.  The elves, exhausted from the hard work preparing for christmas happened to be floating by when they saw Santa wedged in the chimney. They quickly tied ropes around Santa legs and tugged. Santa eventually was freed and could finally finish his last few visits.
